Attention all local Cumbrian businesses!

WHO ARE BAE SYSTEMS?

BAE Systems is a British multinational aerospace and defence company that operates in several countries around the world. The company’s facility in Barrow-in-Furness is one of its main sites, and it is where BAE Systems builds and assembles submarines for the Royal Navy.

The site is home to several key facilities, including a construction hall where the submarines are assembled, a design centre where new submarine concepts are developed, and a dock where submarines are launched and maintained. The site also houses a training facility where workers are trained in the skills needed to build and maintain submarines.

ATTENTION ALL LOCAL CUMBRIAN BUSINESSES!

The Barrow-in-Furness facility has been the centre of BAE Systems’ submarine-building operations since the late 19th century. Today, it employs thousands of people and is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of some of the world’s most advanced submarines and more recently has signed a AUKUS trilateral agreement between Australia and the US to supply Australia with its first nuclear powered submarines. With this contract, BAE in Barrow-in-Furness is set to expand its workforce from 10,000 employees to over 17,000 within the next 12 months.

WHAT DOES THIS ALL MEAN FOR LOCAL BARROW BUSINESSES?

BAE Systems is a major contributor to the local economy, and its operations have a significant impact on the wider region. The company is committed to investing in the local community and supporting local businesses, and it works closely with local schools and colleges to provide training and education opportunities for young people.

BAE Systems has a supply chain that spans the globe, but the company also seeks to work with local suppliers and contractors wherever possible. For example, the company may source materials, equipment, or services from local businesses to support its submarine-building operations.
